Anti-dengue seminar

  Published: October 24, 2011(The Nation) NOORPUR THAL - The Education Department District Khushab organized a seminar on dengue eradication here at Government Girls College Noorpur Thal. The objective of the seminar was to educate people, especially the students to get them prepared for fighting the epidemic of dengue. A large number of students, teachers and people from all walks of life participated attended the seminar. Deputy District Health Officer Dr Mian Muhammad Tahir was the chief guest on the occasion. While prominent educationists Malik Habib Ullah Saggu, Malik Nawab Din Kilara and Malik Nawab Din Saggu also participated in the event. The college Principal Malik Habib Ullah thanked the participants for listening to speakers with patience. On the occasion, DO Colleges Malik Ahmad Iqbal Tiwana read out the message of the Punjab Chief Minister while chief guest threw light on the dengue virus and the government campaign to arrest the epidemic in the province.

Lack of drinking water in Jauharabad

 Shortage of drinking water is one of the main problems which peoples are facing. Having three water schemes in the city but most of the citizens don’t have the facility of clean drinking water. There is no pipe line in most part of the city. One water supply line is laid from jauharabad to near the bank of river Jhelum. When that scheme was started they never think of testing the under ground water. Result is that water is not good enough for drinking purpose.  People use alternate for getting the drinking water.Most of them fetch water from hand pumps in bottles which are located near a cannal.some of them make water bore near that canal and lay their own pipe line to their house which needs a lot of money and effort.     Drinking water has become a big issue now days. Warcha salt mines are located in district Khushab. White salt of that mine is very good and well demanded and its purity is 98% which is better than Khewra salt mines and Kalabagh salt mines.Shades of  salt are generally white and pink and total resources of salt are over 3-4 billion tones or may be more.Warcha salt mines are about 276 KM from Islamabad. Thal Desert

The thal desert is a vast area lying between Jehlum and Indus river.Its length from north to south is about 300 km and its maximum breadth is 112 km. It extends over districts of Khushab, Bhakkar, Mianwali, Jhang, Layyah, and Muzaffargarh. The climate of thal is extreme cold in winter and very hot in summer. average rain fall varies from 185 to300mm. Agriculture and live stock rearing are the main sources of livelihood. Land is of marginal quality and poverty is inherent in local population. Wind storms are normal feature. The ecology of the area is fragile because of low resilience of the desert. The main crop of the thal desert is gram and its cultivation has been inappropriately extended even to sand dunes. Some area of the thal  desert is suffering from water logging at certain places due to seepage from greater thal canal emanating from river Indus. District Khushab has as area of 40550 hectares is under forest which is about 6.19% of the total area of the district.there is also linear plantation of 700 kilometers along with the roads,canals and railway track.Tree grown in the area are Kikar,Phulahi,Sumbal,Mulbury etc. The production of timber and fire wood in the district Khushab is about 300 cubic meter timber and 700 cubic meter fire wood in a year approximately.
