Tehsil Qaidabad still await TMA status

The six new tehsils created by the Punjab government last year in as many districts, reportedly under political considerations, have yet not been given the tehsil municipal administration status because of legal hurdles.

The tehsils were notified by the Board of Revenue but were still without the TMA status or the paraphernalia required for one such unit.
Under the Local Government Ordinance, TMAs are responsible for arranging civic amenities for the people in their respectiveareas.
Officials on Wednesday said the TMA status could be given to new tehsils after the announcement of fresh local elections, or by amending the Local Government Ordinance.
The Punjab government has been delaying local elections, and the ordinance has not been amended for the purpose so far.
The new tehsils are Quaidabad (Khushab)Bhowana (Jhang), Kot Radha Kishan (Kasur), Lalian (Chiniot),, Zafarwal (Narowal) and Chenabnagar (Chiniot).
